About

Test your boat building skills and enjoy a fun, event filled day at the Bel-Mar Boat Landing, Sunday, August 26th for Tiffin’s second annual “Minimal Regatta”. The Bel-Mar Boat Landing and The Tiffin Elks Club are sponsoring “The Minimal Regatta”, a unusual water craft benefit race. Supplies are limited as teams must build a boat seaworthy enough for one person to navigate a short course in the Sandusky River off the landing at the Bel-Mar.

The “Minimal Regatta” is open for participation by individuals or teams up to 5 members. Each team will build a one person, self-powered boat from minimal materials. (one sheet 4×8 x ¼” plywood, two 2’x4’s, a pound of fasteners, and a roll of duct tape). The boats will race around cones on a short course set in the Sandusky River directly off the landing at the Bel-Mar. Awards will be presented to the race winner, the best boat design, and the best sinker.  The team entry fee is $50.00. Each team will be provided with discount coupons to purchase materials locally. Team members will receive gift packs with tee shirts and other goodies.

Friends, relatives and spectators are encouraged to come and watch these wacky racers. The day will be filled with food, drink, live music, and your favorite football team on the big screens.

This event is a benefit to raise money for Ruthie’s Angels, which will be earmarked to serve the residents of Seneca County. Ruthie’s Angels is a non-profit organization who aims to assist those who may have a life-altering medical diagnosis or terminal illness; as well as individuals with a debilitating injury who could therapeutically benefit from wellness services both physically and mentally. They assist the community by offering to fund services to help with chronic pain, Cancer treatments, and injury rehabilitation along with many other ailments. In addition, we sponsor recipients who simply need to be pampered or feel loved for a day if they are dealing with a tragic death in the family or are struggling with a difficult, trying time in their life.

The Regatta will be held Sunday, August 26th.  Entry forms are available at the Bel-Mar, the Tiffin Elks Club, and online.
